Update on Consular Notary Functions

From the 1st of January 2019, Consulates of France in the world (including Australia) are no longer authorized to witness your signature, whether for public acts or documentation under privy seal. Please refer to the website of the General Consulate of France in Sydney for further information.

In case you need notarial services in Melbourne, you need to do as follows:

Firstly, book an appointment with an Australian Notary.

If necessary, your documents must be translated into English by a NAATI certified translator.

The Australian Notary will be able to certify your signature on your documents (Powers of Attorney, Court documents, Administrative documents, Conveyancing, Real property, Personal property, Lease and Mortgage instruments). T

If your French Notary needs an apostille then you must make an appointment from Monday to Friday (8:30am to 1pm) at the Australian Passport Office, Level 2, Collins Square, 747 Collins Street, Docklands, VIC. TEL: 1300 935 260. The Apostille will be issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. You can contact the DFAT by email authentications@dfat.gov.au or by phone: 1300 935 260.
