The centenary of the outbreak of the Great War will be commemorated at the Shrine of Remembrance on Monday 4 August at 2.00 pm where there will be a public wreath laying ceremony. People are encouraged to attend this commemorative service which will pay homage to the individuals involved and affected by the Great War.

Also on Monday 4 August, at 6.00 pm the Melbourne Town Hall will be hosting an event to commemorate a public rally which was held there within days of the outbreak of the war. The evening will feature excerpts of the proceedings from that original meeting, dramatic and musical presentations, and finally reflections on the impact of war on Victoria.
