On Tuesday 6 June 2017, commemorations were held throughout the world to commemorate the D-Day landing on the French coasts of Normandy on 6 June1944. Here in Melbourne, the ceremonies for the 73rd anniversary of DDay were held at the Shrine of Remembrance.
The Normandy Veterans Association had organised the ceremony which included Reverend Sion Gough-Hughes, Shrine Life Governor, Lieutenant Colonel Adrian Lombardo, and the French RSL. After the moving address by Mrs Myriam Boisbouvier-Wylie, Honorary Consul General of France, Mr Chris Holtby OBE, British Consul General and Ms Jessica Mosnik, US Assistant Consul General laid wreaths before the National Anthems were sung by the choir of Glen Waverley Secondary College.
