Farewell to Ron Walker, ”Mr Melbourne”…

On Wednesday 7 February 2018, the State Funeral Service for the late Ron Walker (1939-2018) was held at St Paul’s Cathedral, Melbourne. A celebration of the dynamic life of Ronald Joseph Walker AC, CBE, the service was attended by federal politicians, state premiers, captains of industry, sports stars, community groups, as well as members of the Consular Corps, evidence of the effect his life has had on the community of Melbourne and of Victoria.

Known as ”Mr Melbourne”, Ron’s extensive and respected career spanned the arenas of politics, business, sport and health. Throughout his 78 years, Ron took on roles as property developer, Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Chair of Fairfax Media, Liberal Party fundraiser, Commonwealth Games Organiser and Chairman of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation. He was also a discreet and generous philanthropist who worked tirelessly to improve access to other cancer therapies in Australia, as well as an attentive husband and father.
