The “Association des Anciens Combattants”, under the presidency of Mr Claude Midon, organised a ceremony to commemorate Bastille Day at the Shrine of Remembrance.

The ANZACs who valiantly fought a hundred years ago in the Battle of the Somme during the First World War were remembered. In the words of Mrs Myriam Boisbouvier-Wylie, Honorary Consul General of France in Melbourne, “It is very fitting that one hundred years later, for the first time in history, on this Day of French National Day, the ANZACs troupes are marching on the Champs Elysees of Paris, alongside the French Army.”

Young students from the French schools of Camberwell Primary School and Caulfield Junior College laid wreaths at the monument within the Shrine.
