Lest we forget

On the 11th of November at 11:00 am, every Australian pauses to remember the soldiers that were killed or injured during wars or armed conflicts. An official ceremony took place at the Shrine of Remembrance where British and French flags were floating proudly near the Australian one. The Governor of Victoria, The Hon. Alex Chernov, gave a moving speech.

Afterwards, a French commemoration was held inside the Shrine of Remembrance organised by the Association des Anciens Combattans du Victoria. The Honorary French Consul General, Myriam Boisbouvier-Wylie,  reminded us that… ”one hundred years on, the foe is different in both form and purpose, but the Allied are still fighting on the same side: on the side of collective freedom, on the side of individual rights, on the side of equal opportunity for men and women.”

Children from Camberwell Primary School and a representative from Union des Francais de l’Étranger showed their respect to the Lost Soldier by laying a wreath.
