On Thursday 24 May, Auburn High School hosted the students from Caulfield Junior College and Camberwell Primary School who had taken part in the International Kangourou Maths competition.

The Kangourou Awards are very special indeed. The competition is named after an Australian Mathematician who created the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMT) back in 1978, professor Peter O’Halloran. He was the inspiration behind the creation of the “kangourou des maths” 13 years later by French mathematicians.

This maths competition is opened to students from several thousand schools located in more than 40 countries. This is not a small contest… and to think that this competition is not only about mathematics but that there is an added challenge: it is in French as well! The results from Auburn High School, Camberwell Primary School and Caulfield Junior College were impressive and demonstrate the quality of their bilingual education.

In particular, the Principals of Auburn High School and Camberwell Primary School, Maria Karvouni and Janet Gale, were very proud of their students finishing in the very top tier [ top 1%]!
