On Sunday 17th of September, the Royal Air Force Association held a memorial service for the 83rd anniversary of the Battle of Britain at the Shrine of Remembrance.

“The Few” – Archives from the RAF

The Battle of Britain, took place during World War II in 1940. It was a pivotal aerial conflict between the Royal Air Force (RAF) of the United Kingdom and the German Luftwaffe. The RAF successfully defended England against German air attacks, preventing a potential invasion and marking a significant turning point in the war. Consisting of 2,945 aircrew, the RAF was joined by volunteers from 13 different nations. This international force became known as ‘The Few’.

The solemn ceremony honoured the sacrifice of all members of the Royal Air Force, the Royal Australian Air Force and Allied Air Forces, and those who gave their lives in the Battle of Britain. The French Association des Anciens Combattants was also proudly in attendance with the Councillor to the French Living Abroad, Serge Thomann.
