Since September, several data leaks have taken place with various Australian services such as Optus or Medibank. It is natural to ask yourself questions about the security of your data as well as the risk of theft of your identity.
The hacked operator is in charge of directly contacting users whose data may have been leaked. If in doubt, you can contact them.
However, stealing or leaking passport numbers is not enough to put your personal data at risk. Biometric data is not linked to numbers and the risk of theft is therefore minimal. Any attempt to do so would be flagged.
There is therefore no need to renew your passport.
However, if you have any doubts, or think that an attempt has been made to exploit your data fraudulently, you can report it to the Service Public website. More information on cyber attacks here.
