If your French children are growing up, don’t forget to register them when they turn sixteen.

It is compulsory for all boys and girls aged sixteen and above to register at the General Consulate of France in Sydney.

There are two cases:

► The parents are already registered in the Registry of French people living abroad: the registration of the minor is automatic and does not require any intervention.

►The parents are not registered in the Register of French nationals living abroad: you must then contact the Sydney Consulate before the sixteenth birthday of your child and register them on the French Register.

Please note: binational citizens still need to register.

All young French nationals between 16 and 25 years old must participate in the Defence and Citizenship Day. French Consular Posts in Australia do not organize such a Defence and Citizenship Day but you can email them to get a temporary certificate to attest that you are in good standing. This certificate is very important for all the formalities that you might enter with in France, such as sitting for the French baccalaureate, applying for a drivers licence, etc….

All the young  French people who are registered abroad will be attached to the National Service Centre in Perpignan.
