On Thursday, August 29th , the Honorary Consul General of France in Melbourne Ms. Myriam Boisbouvier-Wylie was the guest speaker to the conference organised by the Young Diplomats Society. This conference, held at the premises of the French Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. is part of a ”Consular Series” which invites actors in the diplomatic world to talk about their activities.

Myriam Boisbouvier-Wylie talked about the Consulate of France in Melbourne. She retraced its history from 1852 to present times. It is interesting to note that the French Republic interrupted and reopened the Melbourne Consulate a few times over the centuries.

Since 2000, Melbourne has an Honorary Consulate. The Honorary Consul represents the French Republic in all the official functions and ensures consular assistance to the community. Since 2016, there is an Itinera passport machine in Melbourne that allows to take biometric data. This avoids a trip to Sydney for the French nationals who want to renew their passports.
